Intro | The Badges | Troop 303 Counselors | Muskogee District Counselors | Counselor Application

Pick a Subject

Talk to your Scoutmaster about you interests. Read the requirements of the Merit badges you think you are interested in. Pick one to earn. Find out from your scoutmaster who the counselor is for that badge. You can learn more about  each merit badge by clicking "The Badges" at the top of this page.

Scout Buddy System

You must have another person with you EVERY TIME you meet with your counselor. This person can be another scout, your parents or guardian, a brother or sister, relative or friend.

Call the Counselor

Get a signed merit badge application from your Scoutmaster. Contact the counselor for that badge and tell them you want to earn that merit badge. The counselor should set up a meeting to explain what is expected of you and to help get you started. Read the merit badge pamphlet on the subject. Most are available through your Troop or library. You should  feel comfortable contacting the counselor during the process with any questions you may have. There may even be points throughout the requirement course that require checking.

Show Your Stuff

When you are ready, call the counselor and make an appointment to show you have completed the requirements. Discuss with the counselor, what is needed before you meet with them. Bring anything required, to show you have completed the requirements. In cases where items are too large to be moved, the counselor may require photographs and/or written statements from adults, showing the requirements have been met. The counselor will ask you to do each of the requirements to make sure you know the information and have done or can do the things required.

Get the Badge

When the counselor is satisfied that you have met each requirement, they will sign your application. Give the signed application to your Scoutmaster so they can get you your badge.

Requirements

You are expected to meet the requirements AS THEY ARE STATED - no more, no less. if the requirement says "Show or Demonstrate", that is what you must do. Just telling about it is not enough. the same is true for phrases and words such as "make", "list", "in the field", "collect", "identify", and "label". Ask questions BEFORE you start the process if there is any doubt about what is required.
